Activities - Rock climbing and Mountain climbing

The summit if Spitzkop is measured at almost 2300 meters above sea level and the summit of Witkop is measured at 2386 meters above sea level. This makes for an interesting climb.

Different routes offer various degrees of difficulty for both the mountaineer and rock climber, whether novice or professional.
Sheer rock faces of the majestic Witkop, exceeding one hundred meters in height, make this an ideal spot for the extreme sport of rock climbing.

Activities - Airplane crash site on Spizkop

Spitzkop on the farm Driekoppen was the scene of an airplane accident on the morning of 15 May 1948. At about 07:30 in the morning, a Mercury Airlines Dakota airplane called “City of Durban” crashed into the South-Eastern side of the mountain, just outside our boundaries, resulting in the loss of 13 lives. The flight was en-route from Durban to Johannesburg on the first leg of its route between Durban and London. It was reported that dense cloud cover obscured the view of the pilot and the pane smashed directly into the side of the mount, barely thirty meters from the summit. This sight can be reached by ascending Spitzkop by one of the dedicated hiking routes.
One finds it hard to believe that the tragedy took place against a mount practically in the middle of nowhere with such a narrow summit.
